[Background] In the beginning there was a god named Iluvatar, and his children were the Children of Iluvatar and they were the Firstborn and the Followers; the race of elves and of men respectively. Elrond’s lineage is mixed in the blood of men and Elves, and as such he is given the title Halfelven. As most do, whom are born with this mix of blood – Elrond had a choice to belong either to the race of men or to the Firstborn, and he chose the Firstborn. And as are all Firstborn, he is immortal, and the future of his fate is unknown even to him beyond the fact that his future lies in the land of the Valar – in Valinor, to where he was sailing before being brought here, to Somarium.
"And of the love of Thingol and Melian there came into the world the fairest of all the Children of Iluvatar that was or shall ever be."
[Personality] Elrond is the Lord of Rivendell, the father of three children, a wise seer, a knowledgeable lore master, a strong warrior, and an overall warm and kind-hearted person. As a lord and father, he is protective and nurturing – of his children, of his people, and of his friends both met and unmet. He is trusting to any who have not given him cause to doubt, and would open his house to any friend as well as offer any resources he had to be shared. As is with elves, his house is one that is at any time, ideal ‘whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or story-telling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all.’ And the master of the Last Homely House is fond of them all. Time, however, is a difficult thing for elves, for they change very little, even as the world around them grows and adapts. And for them, being taken from their home and their ways is a more difficult thing than it would be for most. But Elrond and his people accept the different people around them, and cherish those who would live in the moment and change with time, no matter how brief their life may be in comparison to the ageless elves.
As one of the Firstborn, he is very emotional. The depths of his emotions, as deepened by the merciless flow of time for his kind, are far deeper than that of men. Whether it be happiness or sorrow, or any other emotion here there or in-between, it is strong within Elrond and his empathy is boundless. He is also very wise, having spent thousands of years experiencing first-hand and also in reading, learning, in his life. He has an insight that mortal men lack, and his council is greatly heeded amongst the people of Middle-Earth. Even without his foresight to take into consideration, his wisdom is great. He has a great love for the Firstborn, but as one of the Halfelven, he also has great love for the other Children of Iluvatar – the race of men. He loves them and fears for their continued safety almost as much as he loves and cares for his own.
Even when his face would hide emotion, his eyes are filled with them, and in that way he can convey many emotions. And he is honest with those emotions. No matter how difficult the truth is, he respects the people he converses with, and as such, would give them the courtesy of speaking honestly with them. And yet in the face of enemies or any methods they could devise to torture him, he would not speak. He can be stubborn just as much as he can be strong in will.
As a father, he is very protective, having two sons and a daughter that he care for very much, and Aragorn as well, whom he had raised when he was young as his own. In the end, he would put their happiness above his own, no matter the hurt it would cause himself. And so it came to be that he was deprived of passing with his children into Valinor; for his daughter chose a mortal life and his twin sons also remained on Middle-Earth after his departure. But he would not fault them; only wish for them to find their greatest happiness and support them therein in any way he could.
As a warrior he is strong, but also gifted with much tactical knowledge. He has lead armies as well as he has fought with them. But his greatest strength now is no longer in fighting; although has not lost that strength, but rather he would choose to heal before he would chose to go himself to war again. Elrond is known as one of the best healers; and is happy in being able to ease the suffering of others. He seeks to heal the hurts he finds rather than to deal them out. But his years as a warrior have built up his strength, not only physically but mentally as well. It built resilience into his personality as well as his body.
Elrond himself is also considered highly incorruptible; being able to resist the wizard-traitor Saruman’s speech; and oppose Sauron in his offers of partnership with the Elves. But as is with most that are not evil, he cannot fully comprehend evil, or see the depths of an evil heart. Even wise as he is, he may still be more trusting than he should to one who can hide their evil intents well; just as Manwe did in the face of Melkor’s evil heart. The desire to trust before doubt can always lead to mistakes and misunderstandings. This is why Elrond takes the advice he gives very seriously, and will advise that seeking another’s council is not always better than listening to your own heart’s council. And in serious matters, he would rather hear many opinions, rather than simply listen to his own. He believes that decisions that affect others should not be made without the people in question having a voice. His thoughts often fall to others before himself, whether it be his people, the people of Middle-Earth, his family, or his friends.
But time has also laden on him many sorrows, and his personality which was once more lively, is a bit more subdued now. While his nature is decidedly positive, he is far more mellow than he would have been a few thousand years earlier. In trying times, he is prone to sighing, and spending much time lost in thought. In cheerful times, though, he is still joyful and social; prone to teasing his friends lightly. And in business, he is polite and as forthcoming with aide and information as he can be, without placing any hardships on his people. In his thoughts, his family comes first, along with his people, and then the race of men, and shortly after, the rest of Middle Earth.
[Specialties/Abilities] While he would chose healing over fighting now, his skills have not left him. First and foremost he has great experience and foresight which aide him in tactical endeavors. His wisdom allows him to make quick decisions when he needs to and therefore also allow him to act quickly. He can fight with both staff and with blade when it comes to close combat; enough skill to be a fair force against any foe. But he is also not as practiced with them as he once was, so he would naturally have his fair share of weaknesses. At a distance, he can rely on spells – spells that would call on the strength of the elements to aid him. For example - he has a bond with the elements that has let him raise the river ferociously when he has needed to bar out enemies. He can call on many elemental forces to help him fight his foes, and the scale can be either small or great, depending on the need and the incantation.
But spells require time to utter. They aren’t ideal for all situations. Some of the incantations, in the Elven tongue, can be difficult or long. And they require good timing to be most effective. They aren’t, in nature, a good defense when your enemy is up close. You could risk getting yourself caught up in whatever spell you are trying to perform.
He is also known as one of the greatest healers among the Elves of Rivendell. The Elves there depend on his skills and vast knowledge. While most injuries may naturally born of weapons, there are also many monsters of old, poisons, and weapons of darkness that work in very different ways in their world, some of which are very tricky to deal with. It is special cases like those where Elrond’s knowledge and skills come in handy the most; though he would turn away no one in need.
His foresight is another thing entirely. He is a highly acclaimed seer, and his visions are known to be highly accurate and rarely wrong. Foresight allows him to see things and events far away from him. Although, with all such things, there is always the possibility of things left unseen, and changes that would not make all visions one hundred percent accurate.
[Affection] Elves are affectionate, and Elrond is no exception. It would take something pretty out there to make him uncomfortable.
[Fighting] Your characters may fight/injure/kill him if you get my okay first. He wouldn't provoke it, and he wouldn't be easy to kill, but I'm open to plotting.
[Other Permissions] Break the fourth wall, get invasive. I'm okay with it.
